Ever heard of a Jaffle?  Well if you haven’t, visit Jaffles & Wraps, in South Portland, to find out what this delicious treat is!  According to their website, a Jaffle is “2 slices of buttered bread toasted in a Jaffle iron with your choice of fillings.”  Fillings range from egg, artichoke, and grilled veggies to BBQ chicken, prosciutto, and steak.  You can also choose between different fruit fillings, including peach, mango, orange, and strawberry spreads and cream cheeses.

The menu also features wraps, which include fillings in a flour tortilla.  The menu also offers herb, spinach, and tomato flavor wraps.  Some of the fillings include a ceasar wrap, curry chicken salad, and a quesadilla.  They also serve Stumptown coffee.

The owner of Jaffles & Wraps, Matt Fendall, grew up in Coos Bay, Oregon and attended college at Southern Oregon.  His hobbies include snow skiing, sports, history, and cribbage.  He worked for a while as a lumber broker serving the Hawaiian Islands until the economy made it hard for him to keep his work.  He then decided to pursue a lifelong dream of owning his own café.  Jaffles & Wraps was inspired by “Daddy’s Diner,” a joke his family came up with based on his weekend breakfasts and his love to cook.  Another native Oregonian, Ramsey Fendall, is Matt Fendall’s right hand man.  He helps in the kitchen.

The rest of the staff includes Laury Girt, who has a background in non-profits, and works part-time for Jaffles & Wraps.  RJ Tonneson is a family friend who grew up in southwest Portland.  He is the “Circle Logo Designer Extraordinaire,” according to their website.  Sunny Iyer has helped out with the menu ideas and local organic food connections.

Their website also recognizes RiverWest Acupuncture Clinic for inspiring them to turn their dream into a reality and being by their sides during this entire process.  Silva Construction is included on their website list of recognition as well, along with Beverly Atwood—consultant—Carrigg Photography, and their “Security Dog Wanna Be” Kai.  Kai is the Fendalls’ German Shepherd, and she enjoys spending time at the Cart.  She can perform many tricks and loves to show off for the customers.

Lastly, the website recognizes Patty, “Wife to Matt and Mom to Ramsey & Ian.”  She and the boys enjoy spending their weekends at the cart, conversing with costumers and coming up with new and exciting menu and design ideas.

Jaffles & Wraps is located behind RiverWest Acupuncture Clinic at 3314 SW Kelly Avenue.  You can find it at the west end of the Gibbs Street Bridge.  Visit this cart soon to try a Jaffle or a Wrap!
