With South Waterfront’s continuous growth comes many business opportunities, and OIA Global Inc. (OIA) is the newest business to move to the neighborhood.  This Portland transportation firm plans to relocate its corporate headquarters to South Waterfront very soon.  The firm just recently leased 33,000 square feet located at 2100 S.W. River Parkway, and it will take occupancy of its new space in December 2013.  The move will involve about 100 employees housed in 25 offices in 11 countries.

OIA is a leading worldwide transportation, supply chain management and packaging solutions provider.  CEO of OIA, Charlie Hornecker, says, “We are excited to make the move to our new headquarters and begin the next chapter in OIA’s expansion.  We have closed on multiple acquisitions and have significant organic growth opportunities that are driving the success of our company.  Our new location will allow us to be more effective in supporting our current customers, developing new customers, and recruiting the best talent in our industry.”

With the new South Waterfront Global Headquarters, the warehouse and distribution services will remain at the company’s facilities adjacent to the Portland International Airport and near Terminal 6 port facilities.  Peter Andrews and Nick Ehlen with Melvin Mark Brokerage Company represented OIA while Andrew Rosengarten and Jones Lang LaSalle represented the landlord.  The building is owned by Clarion Partners and managed by Urban Renaissance Group.  OIA leases nearly 170,000 square feet of industrial space at Bybee Lake Logistics Center in the Rivergate area.

OIA provides third party logistics and delivers clients a unique combination of global logistics, creative packaging, and material sourcing solutions.  Growth is driving this move, as it has just recently strengthened its Midwest presence by acquiring International Transport, based in Ohio.  Charlie Hornecker also said, “We have been searching for a new location to accommodate our growth and the South Waterfront is the best economic location based on our customers, employees, and future recruiting needs.”

OIA is a part of LDI Ltd., which is “a closely held, value-added holding company based in Indianapolis,” according to their website.  LDI started in 1912 as a manufacturer of corrugated boxes, and it has since acquired developed interests in distribution, manufacturing, and logistics businesses.  LDI owns a leading distribution business and a global logistics company with total employment of about 1,000, and it offers parts, apparel, and accessories for motorcycles and ATVs; and international and domestic freight forwarding, supply chain management, contract warehousing, and specialty packaging design.
