Portland – On June 3rd The International School signed a long-term lease with Lunquist Development Company for 13,500 SF located at 5210 SW Corbett Avenue. The new facility will provide a dedicated Early Childhood campus for the school’s full immersion Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese preschool program. The school’s kindergarten through fifth grade classes will remain at its main campus in South Waterfront.
“The dedicated Early Childhood campus in John’s Landing will provide a very supportive learning environment for our youngest students,” said Head of School Robert Woods. “Children and families will be able to learn and form bonds in an intimate and stimulating environment while still being part of the greater TIS community.”
The school’s new campus will house classes for over 120 students, with 50 percent learning Spanish, 38 percent learning Chinese, and 12 percent learning Japanese. The new campus will have ten classrooms, recreation space, and the preschool’s art, music, library and physical education programs.
The International School continues to be committed to its main campus in South Waterfront. After leasing property there since 1993, the school purchased its first property at the corner of Water Avenue and Sherman Street in 2006. In January 2013, the school acquired a classroom building that it had been leasing, and two additional parcels. It now owns a total of 1.63 acres that will form the main campus for the long term.
“The Early Childhood Campus in John’s Landing provides much needed space for the school’s growth and a great complement to our main campus,” Woods said. “We look forward to being part of the John’s Landing community.”
